The Moxibustion procedure

The moxa cones are placed onto the acupuncture points on the body and lit to provide warmth and improve the flow of Qi in the body while removing the disease-causing conditions in the body.

There are various types of moxibustion procedures. In direct moxibustion, the moxa, is placed on the top of the acupuncture point and lit. This type of moxibustion may or may not leave a scar. Direct moxibustion can be scarring or non-scarring.

In scarring moxibustion, the moxa burns on the acupuncture point until it burns out completely. In non-scarring moxibustion, the moxa is placed on the point and lit, but it should not touch or burn the skin.

There is a rejuvenating heating sensation that penetrates the skin and provides relief to the patient. The moxibustion therapist doctor ensures that the patient’s skin is safe without any scars or blisters, or pain. The moxa is removed at the nick of time before it scalds the skin.
